Paper weight charts

Tuesday morning, 6:40 AM

Thirty kids, one scale, and a clipboard that has to survive the season and satisfy the state.

The way it works now

  • Paper charts and a spreadsheet that only you understand
  • Descent plans recalculated by hand, or not at all
  • Nobody notices a kid is behind until tournament week
  • Attendance lives in a different notebook
  • Audit trail is a binder you hope you never need

The way it should work

  • Athletes tap their name and step on the scale
  • Descent plans computed from certified assessment data
  • Behind-plan and below-minimum flagged the morning it happens
  • Attendance derived from the weigh-in you already did
  • Clean export whenever anyone asks for it

Three steps, every morning

Set it up once. After that it's muscle memory.

1

Athlete checks in

Tap a name on the room iPad, punch in the weight, done. Works offline and syncs when the wifi comes back.

2

The plan does the math

Every entry is measured against that athlete's certified descent plan and minimum weight, using your state's rule set.

3

You see what matters

One board: who's on plan, who's behind, who's below minimum, and who's at risk for the next event.

What's in it

Everything the daily routine needs. Nothing it doesn't.

01

Kiosk mode

Lock a shared iPad at the room door. Optional athlete PIN, continuous flow so the line keeps moving, and a coach PIN to exit.

02

Compliance engine

Minimum weight and lowest certifiable class computed from alpha weight and body fat. Descent plans respect the weekly cap and floor at the certified minimum.

03

Daily flags

On plan, ahead, behind, at risk, below minimum — computed at entry and stored with the record, so your history stays honest.

04

Lineup builder

Drag athletes onto weight classes for an event. Green, yellow, red tells you whether the cut is achievable. Below-minimum assignments are blocked outright.

05

Attendance

Derived from weigh-ins automatically. Bulk-mark absent, excused, or a day off for a whole squad in two taps.

06

Exports

Roster, weigh-ins, compliance summary, and lineups to CSV whenever an AD or an official asks.

Built around the rules

Weight classes, body-fat floors, descent caps, and tolerances are stored as data per state association — not hard-coded. Adding a state is a data change, and existing certifications stay on the rules they were certified under.

OSSAA — Oklahoma UIL — Texas More states on request
Reference tool, not a regulatory authority. ScratchWeight assists with weight-management tracking based on published state rules. It does not replace your state association handbook, and verifying compliance remains the coach's responsibility.

Data posture

  • No date of birth. Grade and graduation year only.
  • No medical records. Athletic records, not clinical ones.
  • The school owns the data. Coaches are administrators, not owners.
  • Under-13 not permitted. COPPA-aligned from the start.
